Marrakech Museum: A Blast From the Past
May 14th, 2007 by Rcon Franchesca Pascua

I often wondered what Morocco looked like during the old days. It seems that no matter how many books I read and how many images I tried to look at, my fascination about Morocco’s culture and heritage just won’t die. It’s a good thing that my keen eyes caught a glance of this inviting structure just standing across the Ben Youssef mosque, which is one of the many Marrakech attractions that is really worth seeing – the Marrakech Museum.
The Marrakech museum houses precious Muslim and Berber artifacts, as well as paintings and other magnificent artworks from Morocco’s world-class artists. Examples of the items on exhibit are Moroccan weapons, potteries, calligraphy, and jewelry that were used by Moroccan people during the ancient times. The exhibit of rugs and carpets attract the attention of visitors because of their colorful and elaborate designs. Just walking around the Marrakech museum and having a glimpse of the remainders of the history of Morocco made me feel like I just hitched a ride back to the bygone days.
I can say that the trip in this museum in Marrakech is one of my most treasured experiences in my entire Moroccan travel. Well, it is not because of the rare items it features but the different feeling the place brought to my senses. The museum is indeed an oasis in the middle of the desert full of clamorous souks. I went back to my hotel feeling refreshed and invigorated; thanks to the tranquil and relaxing atmosphere offered by this new-found haven called Marrakech museum.
