Fun at Marrakech Food Stalls
Apr 4th, 2007 by Rcon Franchesca Pascua

My debut experience with Marrakech food stalls took place during my first visit to the city.
After a tiring day of exploring Yaqub al Mansur, considered the biggest mosque in Marrakech, I decided to treat my growling stomach to the scrumptious delis and chows offered in the streets of the famous Jemma al-Fnaa square. All foods offered in city stalls are delicious, safe, and cheap. As such, eating at the dining establishments in the square is truly a must for any traveler exploring Marrakech. Just walk through the busy streets of the square and you will find numerous food stalls serving mouthwatering dishes on display.

As I wandered around the square, I was overwhelmed with the number of stall owners trying to convince me to check out their specialties. But I took my time choosing what I’d like to try out. Food variations include kebab stalls, sweet stalls, tea stall, fish stalls, and even snail stalls. Then I finally found Aichas, where I ordered lentil soup, lamb brochettes, salad, and bread with spicy sauce dips. Imagine I enjoyed all of these heavenly local dishes for only less than 30 Dirhams! I really fancied the meals offered at the Aichas food stall, so now I frequently visit the stand to relish its delicious potato cakes, small spicy sausages, cous cous, and my all-time favorite veggie tajine.
