Casablanca Cathedral: Unmatched Beauty and Elegance
May 17th, 2007 by Racquel Balao-as

While preparing the things I need to bring in my quest of discovering the hidden wonders of Casablanca, my travel companion said something that made me stop and wonder. I stared at her with signs of disbelief painted all over my face. She just said that our destination for that day was an old church. I must say that I felt a bit dismayed because I was expecting something grand and captivating like the Hassan II mosque we just visited. However, the church which was referred to as “old” by my friend is actually an immortal, impressive structure called the Casablanca Cathedral (Cathédrale Sacré-Coeur).
Located at the Parc de la Ligue Arabe, Casablanca, this cathedral, which boasts of Neo-gothic architectural design, is a remarkable creation of one of France’s most talented architects, Paul Tournon. In 1956, Morocco attained its independence from the Catholic France. From thereon, the cathedral received little attention because Islam became the dominant religion in Morocco. The Casablanca Cathedral was turned into a school first before it finally became a fitting venue for cultural and historical-related fairs and exhibits.
I surely had a great time visiting Casablanca Cathedral. Aside from the satisfying aesthetic features it generously offered to my eyes, Casablanca Cathedral also gave me the chance to save some money! Entrance is absolutely free! So, my advice to all travelers currently staying in Casablanca, get out of your hotel rooms and experience the tranquil and relaxing ambiance only the immortal cathedral of Casablanca can offer.

Hey:)
Well, nice building in Casablanca - any other interesting architecture there?
I have one ask or advise - could you upload pictures like 800×600 at least and then while uploading click medium or high size for a main page? I just like watching bigger photos
Take care,
